The Vera Meineke Nature Center at Spring Valley is an earth-sheltered, passive-solar natural history museum and visitor center.

Hours of Operation

Nature Center:

  • Daily: 10 a.m.-6 p.m. (April 1-Oct. 31)
  • Daily: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. (Nov. 1-March 31) *Closed on Nov. 28

Grounds & Trails

  • Daily: 8 a.m.-8 p.m. (April 1-Oct. 31)
  • Daily: 8 a.m.-5 p.m. (Nov. 1-March 31)

General Information

The Vera Meineke Nature Center includes interactive exhibits on local plants and animals, a children’s activity area, library and living turtle pond display. Adjacent to the Nature Center is a Learning Garden, Backyards for Wildlife display, a Pollinator Display Garden and a Monarch Rearing & Education Station. The Monarch Rearing Station operates from June to September and includes daily monarch butterfly presentations, which may include a butterfly release, dependent on the weather and butterfly availability.

The Nature Center also provides information on programs and events, program registration, restrooms and a gift sale area.
