Individual with Disabilities

It is our policy to welcome all people to Park District services, programs and activities, regardless of physical limitations. If you or a family member has a disability, and are interested in participating in a program or activity, or if you or a family member require any Park District publications be provided to you in a special format (e.g., Braille, audio-cassette, large print), please advise Park District staff. To assist the District in making these accommodations, contact the director before the start of the program or event to discuss accommodations for a smooth inclusion. In addition to programs listed in this brochure, the Park District also provides specialized services for people with disabilities through NWSRA.

NWSRA

We are a member of a cooperative agreement among 17 districts which form the Northwest Special Recreation Association (NWSRA). NWSRA’s team of full-time therapeutic recreation professionals and trained part-time staff offer safe, fun and quality year-round opportunities to individuals with disabilities of all ages and ability levels. Activities benefit participants through increased self esteem, physical, social and recreation skills development, improved fitness and health, experiencing new challenges, making friends and having fun! After school, evening and weekend programs feature cooperative sports and games, individuals and team sports, arts and crafts, fitness, cooking, and creative arts and drama. Camps, trips and special events are available at various times during the year. Inclusion assistance is provided by NWSRA to those individuals who wish to participate in their home district program. When registering for a program, the parent of the individual with a disability should inform the park district (and NWSRA, if desired) of any accommodation needed in order to successfully participate in the program. District staff will then contact NWSRA for assistance. For more information, brochures may be picked up at Schaumburg Park District facilities, or at the NWSRA office at Park Central, 3000 W. Central Road in Rolling Meadows. NWSRA may be contacted at 847/392-2848 (voice), 392-2855 (TTY) or 392-2870 (fax).
