Throughout the District, we maintain nearly 300 acres of preserved natural areas. In addition to our 135-acre Spring Valley, four other designated conservation areas provide homes for wildlife and give residents opportunities to experience wild nature close to home and appreciate the beauty of Illinois’ native plants and animals.
All conservation areas are accessible via trails, boardwalks, etc. and many contain interpretive signs that help explain natural features. Our conservation staff at Spring Valley maintain these areas and conduct restoration and management activities as well as seasonal interpretive programs.
Specialized programs for organized groups can be arranged for any site by contacting our Spring Valley program staff at 847-985-2100 or by email at springvalley@parkfun.com.
