1. What is the purpose of the Visitor Center renovation at Heritage Farm?
In our most recent Community Attitude and Interest Survey, Schaumburg Park District residents indicated a strong interest in enhancing or expanding our nature education classes and offerings. The renovation of the Visitor Center will result in the following:
- Enhance educational opportunities for the community.
- Add more program rooms, exhibit spaces, a kitchen and outdoor education decks.
- Renovate toilet rooms and support amenities.
- Ensure full ADA accessibility.
2. What new features will the renovated Visitor Center include?
- New classrooms, restrooms, a teaching kitchen and sheltered outdoor program areas.
- Eco-friendly features like passive solar and geothermal heating/cooling.
3. What is the expected start/end date for construction?
- Construction is anticipated to begin in mid-March 2024.
- Construction is expected to conclude in the winter of 2025.
4. How will the renovation impact current facilities?
- The Museum Shop/Visitor Center will undergo renovation throughout much of 2024.
- The gift sale area and visitor information counter will be temporarily relocated to the farmhouse.
- Portable restrooms will be provided on-site during construction.
