Be a part of volunteer efforts to better the local environment by joining Schaumburg Park District’s Community Conservation Work Days!

Community Conservation Work Days are set for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sept. 28 and Nov. 16 at Spring Valley, 1111 E. Schaumburg Road.

“This is a chance for both new and seasoned volunteers to join us in our conservation efforts with hands-on activities,” said Dave Brooks, manager of conservation services. “We love to teach how each person can make a difference and appreciate the extra help participants provide in conserving our lands.”

Community Conservation Work Days are composed of two separate events:

• National Public Lands Day, Sept. 28, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. – This event is celebrated annually across the United States and is the largest, single-day volunteer effort for public lands. At Spring Valley, participants will learn how to work with nature to heal the land and help restore rare plants and animals. Volunteers will be outdoors collecting native plant seeds for future restoration. Participants can attend for an hour or the entire morning to help with this effort.

• Brush Cutting & Invasive Species Removal, Nov. 16, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. – Participants will join in efforts to better the environment by removing unwanted species from Spring Valley woodlands and learn about the importance of native species.

Registration is not required to attend and there is no cost to participate.
