The Illinois PGA Section announced today that Schaumburg Park District Executive Director, Tony LaFrenere, has been named the 2022 Illinois PGA Golf Executive of the Year.
The Illinois PGA Golf Executive of the Year Award bestows special recognition on a PGA Golf Professional who has performed outstanding services for multiple facilities/course management/ownership operation, Allied Association or golf industry executive management position. As one of the highest honors the Illinois PGA can bestow, candidates must possess outstanding qualities of leadership, vision, courage, strong moral character, and a substantial record of service to the Association and the game of golf. Individuals honored with the PGA Golf Executive of the Year award are held as a model PGA Professional.
LaFrenere has served as the Executive Director of Schaumburg Park District since 2012. In his role, he oversees a diverse portfolio of recreation facilities and programs including the 27-hole Schaumburg Golf Club. He leads and manages over 80 full-time staff as well as over 600 part-time staff in peak season. Schaumburg Park District facilities host over one million guests each year at weekly recreation classes, large athletic tournaments, cultural arts performances, preschool and much more.
Prior to joining Schaumburg Park District, LaFrenere worked for the Hoffman Estates Park District in a number of roles including Head Golf Professional, General Manager of Bridges of Poplar Creek Country Club and Deputy Director.
In addition to his PGA status, LaFrenere is also a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional.
"As a lifelong resident of Schaumburg, it is a privilege for me to give back to my community by serving in my current role," said LaFrenere. "Golf has always been a passion of mine, so being recognized by the Illinois PGA with this distinction is truly an honor. My goal is to not only inspire future PGA professionals, but also to promote the growth and development of the game at Schaumburg Golf Club."
Schaumburg Golf Club was recently recognized as one of the top 50 golf courses in the country, and fourth in Illinois, by GolfPass.
