Barracuda Swim Team

The Schaumburg Park District Barracuda Swim Team is a multi-level program offering opportunities for competition and skill development to all swimmers. New members are always welcome. Practices are held at Schaumburg High School and Hoffman Estates High School. Ages are used as guidelines. Different skill groups are available. Red Group
Swimmers must be able to swim 25 yards. Concentration is 80% drill/stroke development work and 20% conditioning. Average practice will be up to 1000 yards. It is recommended that all swimmers attend all meets (or at least in home dual meets). This is a way for coaches and the swimmer to mark improvement during the season. Swimmers need to have a kickboard and yearly AAU registration ($14). Group is for kids age 8 and under.
Silver Group
An introduction to competitive swimming. Practice is three days a week and includes starts, turns and the four competitive strokes (butterfly, breaststroke, backstroke, freestyle). Swimmers must be able to swim 50 yards in at least one of the competitive strokes. Concentration is 40% drill/stroke improvement and 60% conditioning. Average practice is 2000 yards. Swimmers will be expected to compete in conference and dual meets. Swimmers need to have a kickboard, pull buoy and yearly AAU registration ($14). Group is for participants ages 11 to 12.
Bronze Group
Swimmers must be able to swim 25 yards. Concentration is 80% drill/stroke development work and 20% conditioning. Average practice will be up to 1000 yards. It is recommended that all swimmers attend all meets (or at least in home dual meets). This is a way for coaches and the swimmer to mark improvement during the season. Swimmers need to have kickboard and yearly AAU registration ($14). Group is for participants ages 9 to 10.
Gold Group
Participants should have a strong background in training and stroke mechanics of all four strokes. A strong commitment to compete is needed. Concentration is 30% drill and 70% conditioning. Average practice is 4000 yards (2+ miles). Swimmers need to have a kickboard, pull buoy, short style training fins and yearly AAU registration ($14). Group is for age 13 and up or by coach's recommendation.
Blue Group
Participants should have a strong background in training and stroke mechanics of
all four strokes. A strong commitment to compete is needed. Concentration is 30%
drill and 70% conditioning. Average practice is 4000 yards (2+ miles). Swimmers
need to have a kickboard, pull buoy, short style training fins and yearly USS/ISI
registration ($60, Dec. to Dec.). Group is for all ages.

Online and mail-in registration are not available for Barracudas. Registrants must bring in two checks to register. For all groups there is a team fee of $30 for one swimmer and $10 for each additional swimmer. Practice schedules will be distributed at registration. All participants must register before they are allowed to swim. Illinois Swimming, Inc. (ISI) or Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) membership is required.
