What's New This Winter, 2009...
Jaime Vine - General Manager
The weather outside is still frightful! So that means you need to be in here!
Wouldn’t you like to be inside where it’s nice and warm? I would. There’s nothing like running on a treadmill in a climate-controlled environment. It beats running in below zero wind chill any day. How about playing some hoops with a bunch of friends, breaking a sweat and taking a nice warm shower? Doesn’t that sound nice? Did I mention the steam room?
There are so many things to do at Schaumburg Tennis Plus to keep you motivated this New Year. Play some tennis. There are classes for every level. If you don’t like to go it alone or group fitness classes are more your thing, how about taking a Kettlebell class or Toning with Free Weights class? We have some really knowledgeable trainers on staff that can definitely keep you in line. Stop fighting old man winter and come inside where it’s always a warm experience.

Figure Eight for Great Abs
Blasting your midsection with set after set of crunches and leg lifts is not only boring — it's inherently limiting. Just like any other bodypart, doing the same exercises in the same rep ranges over and over will bore your body to death and leave you scratching your head when you look in the mirror. Your muscles — even your abs — love a new challenge, so why not give them one?
The figure eight is a great way to mix up a stale abs routine. This weighted move puts your entire core musculature — rectus abdominis, obliques and your deep transverse abdominis — to the test, helping you to burn more calories while strengthening your midsection.
TARGET: Entire core musculature
START: Sit on the floor with your knees bent, holding a medicine ball in front of you. Lean back slightly and lift your feet off the floor.
MOVEMENT: Bring your left knee toward your chest while straightening your right leg. Pass the medicine ball under your left leg, then bend your right knee toward your chest while straightening your left leg. Pass the medicine ball under your right leg. Repeat for 30 seconds.
